Patriotism and Allegiance

What is it? To be honest i don't know the answer because i don't know what exactly it means?

First of all i am confused by the relativity of the term. Does it refer to a country, state, city, district ?????

We all have seen people fight for the cause each of these geographical entities.So which is the bigger cause or is there no bigger cause? If the aliens attack the earth, then all mankind will be patriotic towards the planet earth??? Patriotism is such a relative term that it should not be used when referring to a country alone. In fact it should be a global property with a broader perspective.

When people want to globalize their life, how do they keep their patriotic emotions. It is in my opinion a dying trait. How does one stay fiercely patriotic about his/her city, state, country? Well he can, but in the process there are so many lives lost.

Bal Thackeray says mumbai belongs to mumbaikaars and maharashtrians... he is patriotic about his city and state. Sachin Tendulkar says mumbai belongs to all of india. He is patriotic about his country. Who is the true patriot? That is beyond me.

I would say mumbai belongs to the whole world. Am in the true patriot then? No. Because there is no one outside the earth for me to brag about the earth. So patriotism will flourish as long as there is someone to fight with and fight for.

What is stopping a foreigner to come, work and become a citizen in any country? That is the reality of globalization. No place belongs to no one.

Next is who should be patriotic and how?

A member of the armed forces is patriotic for sure. What about the common man? Does it mean a common man is less patriotic? what does he/she do to show patriotism?

1. Sing the national anthem in school. ( The habit goes down as he/she ages )
2. Pin the flag in their shirt.
3. Watch India vs Pakistan on TV.
4. Curse Pakistan.
5. Run to a foreign country for work at the slightest possibility.
6. Say India will be a super power by 2025 until 2025 and then 2050 etc.
7. Go to India for vacation and compare the social settings and infrastructure with their adopted country.
8. Send money to india to buy property.
9. ( Please add any other patriotic act that you consider worth mentioning )

All the above applies first to me and then others. But what is my way out of this pit. Even if there is, it is into an other pit. Which pit is better? I am afraid to take that chance. What if the other pit is deeper and full of **it?

If you think you have an idea of how crazy that 3 pound brain of mine is, you have just seen the tip of the iceberg.

Power of thoughts

I usually think of a lot of crazy stuff. But in hindsight, i would realize those weren't that crazy. In fact some of them were/are pretty cool. This blog is all about thoughts that we think are not worth mentioning but in reality maybe mind boggling.

All of us are schizophrenics and psychotics to some degree since we all are in a way not completely in sync with reality. So go ahead and post anything and everything that you think and feel about passionately. Get that excess weight of your head and empty the space for more crazy stuff.

I would like to start my first post about something which is close to my heart.
